It's not quite Christmas until I read E.T.A. Hoffmann's, The Nutcracker. Now... there are many versions of this book in existence... but, none scare the crap out of me as much as the one that includes Maurice Sendak's illustrations. Holy Baby J. There is some creepy dark shit in there. If you don't believe me, stop by and check out the book at my parent's house.
Lucy: "Maurice, Where the Wild Things Are, is tame compared to the Nutcracker.... you left quite an impression on my brother and me! Brooks and I can't help but shudder when we see that book on the coffee table around Christmas time."

I leave you all with a nice rendition of The Nutcracker ballet- it is divine... gets you right into the spirit of the holiday! Wishing I got out to see the Nutcracker this season... oh well.
